Kingsmaid Walking Football Event Wednesday 22nd February 2017

In order to start the New Year we are hosting a final single match day event of the  Kingsmaid Cup Walking Football Competition for both the Over 50's and Over 60's on the 22nd February 2017.

The format will be the same as our recent finals day of the Kingsmaid Summer Cup, 2 leagues of 5 teams, each team plays 4 league matches and the top 2 of each league meet in their play-off final. We shall also have a 3rd and 4th place play-off as well. So 4 teams play 5 matches and 1 team plays the 4 games.

Matches will be 14 minutes for over 50's and 12 minutes for over 60's. A maximum of 9 players per squad, 2 subs at half time and 1 other sub allowed for injuries only.

The event is limited to 10 teams, 5 teams over 50's and 5 teams over 60's. Players Over 60 can of course play in the Over 50's event. We aim to referee the Over 60's league games with 3 alterations to our standard rules, 1) No Fast or Power Walking and 2) Minimal Physical Contact 3) Running is a Yellow Card offence and any team accumulating 5 yellows in a match will see the recipient of the 5th Yellow Card sent off for the remainder of the game. Otherwise we use fairly standard Walking football Rules. The event will include, although not exclusively, referees from Man City coaching staff.

If you would like to enter your team then please let me know. Entry fee is £45 per team, kick off is 11am and it should finish just before 2pm.

The teams participating so far are:

  • Over 50's
  • Man City, Fulham ,Xcel Walton and West Ham, with one vacancy
  • Over 60's

The Kingsmaid Summer Walking Football Cup

Kingsmaid Domestic Cleaning sponsored the Kingsmaid Summer Cup, a Walking Football Tournament held at the Etihad, home of Manchester City. Kingsmaid Domestic Cleaning, assisted by their Directors Mark & Sharron Davis were supported by Manchester City's 'City In The Community Foundation' in running 6 separate Match days over the summer. Each event comprised of 10 teams split into 2 mini leagues for the Over 50's and Over 60's. The 2 winners at each event went through to the Grand Final which was played on 6th October at the Etihad.

The events were 6 a-side games and teams got to play 4 games each in their league.

Match Day 1, played on Monday 23rd May, was won by Middleton Legends (over 50's) and Man City Strollers (Over 60's).

Match Day 2, played on Wednesday 22nd June was won by the hosts Man City (over 50's) and Man Cityzens (Over 60's).

Match Day 3 played on Wednesday 13th July was won by Wigan Whites and Huddersfield (Over 60's).

Match day 4, played on Monday 15th August, was won by Birmingham WF and Lifeline (Over 60's).

The last Match Day (5) was played on Sunday 4th September saw the Leggy Mambos complete a Kingsmaid 'clean sweep' winning in both the Over 50's and Over 60's leagues and qualify as winners for the final.

The GRAND FINAL was played on Thursday 6th October, all the previous winners met up at the Etihad to compete in the 2 mini leagues for the over 50's and over 60's. The winners and runners up of the leagues then met in the play-off final

The Leggy Mambos won both leagues and met runners-up Man City in the final play off Final of the Over 50's. The Mambos won a hard fought match 2-0 to win the Kingsmaid Cup (Over 50's). The Leggy Mambos Over 60's team beat the very creditable runners-up 'Lifeline' in the other Kingsmaid Cup Final.

The Leggy Mambos were a class above the competition at both age groups and ran out deserved winners in both leagues, performing another Kingsmaid Clean Sweep.

Alex Williams the legendary Manchester City Goalkeeper presented the trophies and medals to all the finalists.

Mark Davis FD at Kingsmaid and Man City Walking Footballer said 'It has been a hugely enjoyable tournament to run. 50 teams have entered and around 450 Walking Footballers have played in the competition. The Etihad is a perfect facilty for Walking Football and to host the Kingsmaid Cup. We have had some really good feedback from the other clubs.

The spirit of Walking Football has truly shone through. It's a dream come true for many of us to be playing competitive football in our 50's, 60's and 70's. Splitting the leagues to Over 50's and Over 60's has worked well. 122 games have been played over the last 6 months, Each team gets 4 games on the day. I'm sure that has resulted in plenty of sore legs but I'm pleased to say that we haven't had any serious injuries. We've seen some fantastic football, great goals, great moves and plenty of great saves'. There have been a lot of smiling faces. Thankfully,  I have had the support and assistance from Manchester City, my team mates from our weekly Walking Football Sessions at the Etihad and the staff at Kingsmaid to enable me to get the inaugural event off the ground.

The Leggy Mambos have shown us how to really play the game and are deserved winners. Alex Williams was suitably impressed. However, it's up to the rest of us to step up. Certainly the Man City Walking Footballers are hoping for a Pep talk'.

Our thanks also go to the teams from Blackpool, Active, Wigan, Oldham Unathletic, Stevenage, Beaconside, Wakefield, Rochdale, Herne Bay, Baslow, Chesterfield, Chesterton, LPF Leicester, Uxbridge Amblers, Huddersfield, Birmingham WF, Middleton Legends  and Leeds Titans.

Another event is planned for next Spring, for details or to register your interest email us at mark@kingsmaid.co.uk. Some mini 1 day events are in the pipeline for over the winter.
